Clinical Observation of Abdominal Trauma -Review of 128 Cases

Abstract
This report is consist of a review of 128 patients who were sustained blunt and penetrating trauma ,on abdomen during Oct. 5, 1971¢¥-¢¥May 31, 1976 on the surgical department of Kyung Hee Medical -College.
1. The non-penetrating injuries of abdomen were 102 cases (79.7%) and penetrating trauma were -26 cases (20.3%).
2. The causes of blunt trauma were traffic accident, fall, and violence and penetrating trauma were violence, suicide in order of frequency.
3. The Clinical manifestations were abdominal pain (95. 3%), tenderness (SO. 6%), rebound tenderness
¡Æ(76.6%), rigidity (60. 9%), diminished peristalsis (50. 8%), and abdominal distention (45. 1%) in order -of frequency.
4. In abdominal trauma the common injured organs were small intestines (27 cases, 21. 1%), liver
? 5 cases, 19. 5%), spleen (22 cases, 17. 2%) and kidneys.
5. Simple closure were possible in minute injuries to the hollow viscus and liver and splenectomy in spleen injuries and conservative treatment in most kidney injuries 6. The major complications were infection (25 case, 19.5%), pulmonary complication (19 cases,
14.8%), and intestional obstruction (17 cases, 13. 3%).
7. Mortality was 14%. The main causes of death were hypovolemia (5 cases, 3.9%), pulmonary
insufficiency (4 cases, 3. 1%), brain injuries (3 cases 2.3%), septicemia (2 casesl. 6%), and renal shut-down (2 cases, 1. 6%).
